Newton Junior Varsity Boys Track & Field Shines with Personal Records and Strong Finishes

The Newton Junior Varsity boys track and field team delivered an impressive performance across a variety of events, highlighted by personal records, strong finishes, and standout efforts by several underclassmen.

Sprints & Relays Dominate with Speed and Teamwork

In the 100-meter dash, junior Parker Shaffer led Newton with a solid 5th-place finish at 11.9 seconds, setting a season record (SR). Shaffer returned to the track for the 200-meter dash, where he claimed 2nd place with a time of 25.2 seconds, another season record. Fellow sophomore Mitchell Spiker clocked 31.4 in the same event.

Newton’s relay teams showcased both speed and coordination. The 4×100 relay team of Daniel Falcioni, Caleb Flasch, Kaleb Iffert, and Parker Shaffer finished 4th with a time of 54.7. The 4×200 relay team (Dalton Brannon, Aaron Carroll, Owen Ulm, and Mitchell Spiker) took 3rd in 2:05.2, while the 4×400 team (Beau Bennett, Falcioni, Flasch, and Hieser) earned 2nd place with a strong 4:28.4 finish.

Distance Runners Break Personal Records

In the 800 meters, sophomore Parker Harris delivered a standout performance, taking 1st place with a personal record (PR) of 2:15.2. Freshman Alec Bower followed in 6th (2:28.2 PR), and junior Caleb Flasch placed 9th with a PR of 2:38.9. Bower also finished 3rd in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:56.2.

Field Events Bring Power and Precision

The Newton athletes showed strength in field events as well. In the shot put, Harrison Kinkade (33′ 11″) and Aaron Carroll (33′ 10″ SR) placed 4th and 5th respectively, with freshman Beau Bennett earning 6th (31′ 4″). In discus, Flasch led the team with a 2nd place finish and a PR of 105′ 1″. Carroll followed in 3rd (96′ 2″), with Brannon and Bennett also hitting PRs and placing in the top six.

Freshman Max Hieser captured 1st place in the high jump, clearing 5′ 4″, while freshman Evan Holder soared to 2nd in the pole vault with a 10′ 6″ jump. Mitchell Spiker also competed in the vault, tying for 6th with an 8′ 0″ clearance.

With numerous personal records, top finishes, and contributions from athletes across all grades, the Newton Junior Varsity boys demonstrated depth, determination, and growth throughout the meet. Their performance signals a bright future for the program as these young athletes continue to develop and compete.
