Betty Jo (Chesnut) Miller age 89, of Beecher City, passed away peacefully on May 7 th ,
2025, at Heartland Senior Living surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 13 th at the Headyville Christian
Church with Pastor Carroll Ross officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until
7:00 p.m., Monday May 12 th at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois. Burial will be
in the Headyville Cemetery, rural Jasper County, Illinois.
Betty Jo was born on September 23, 1935, in Jasper County, Illinois. She was the
daughter of John and Sylvia (Galloway) Chesnut. On April 20, 1958, Betty Jo married
Robert “Bob” Miller in Newton, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2015.
Betty was retired from the ASCS office in Effingham, Illinois. Betty was a member of the
Beecher City Church of Christ. In her free time, Betty Jo enjoyed reading, sewing, and
especially cooking Sunday dinner for family. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with
her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty Jo will be remembered by her daughters, Janet (Stan) Collins of Herrick; Lori
Miller Hess of Effingham; and Jody Niccum (Kenny Yager) of Newton; 7 grandchildren;
13 great grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob; in-laws Clyde and Letha
Miller; brothers Denny Chesnut, Warren Chesnut, Bobby Chesnut and William Morton
Chesnut; sisters-in-law, Rosie Chesnut, Ilene Chesnut and Doris Chesnut; grandson
Robby Lewis and great granddaughter Lily Sutter.
The family wishes to thank Betty Jo’s hospice nurse, Cathy, for all of her love and
exceptional care as well as her team at Transitions Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts in honor of Betty Jo be made to the
Headyville Cemetery Care Fund.
