Jasper County Community Unit #1, Board of Education Meeting Report October 16, 2023 Superintendent’s Report: The district is aware of an incident that occured on a Jasper County School Bus last week. Jasper County School Administrators will continue to look into the incident to improve bus safety throughout the district.
Philip B. Kuhl age 77, of Newton, Illinois passed away peacefully at 11:57 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Willowbrook of Effingham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton, Illinois with Father Pawel Luczak
Malissa Ann McCaslin age 54, of Newton passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Richland Nursing and Rehab in Olney, Illinois. Funeral services celebrating Malissa’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.
The City of Newton’s Street Department will begin vacuuming leaves along the city streets on November 1, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 a.m.-3 p.m., until end of November or into first week of December if required for extended season. The leaves must be on the roadside of the ditch
