What made you decide this school was the best fit for you?

Olney Central College was the best fit for me because it offered the program I was interested in, which is Radiography. I will be able to start out my college career and have the convenience of living at home to save money for the next chapter of my life. It also gives me the opportunity to continue the musical side of my life.

How do you feel NCHS has prepared you for this next step in life?

After completing several science-related classes, I realized my future education would be leading me down the path of the medical field. With each passing year, it became more clear to me. If it wasn’t for the outstanding educational system here at NCHS my future wouldn’t be so clear to me. Embedded in the educational system, are some of the most amazing and supportive teachers I have ever encountered. It was their support and encouragement throughout each class that helped me realize I had the potential to be anything I set my mind to do.

What are at least two life lessons you have learned from your musical time at NCHS ?

While being a part of the musical department here at NCHS, I have acquired several life lessons, one of them being time and dedication will guide you to the things you want most in life. As a marching band, we didn’t load the buses on Saturdays without several hours of practice and dedication throughout the week in order to be prepared for our competitions. In being a part of this amazing organization, I learned real quick that time and dedication WILL get you what you deserve while we all anxiously awaited for awards to be presented, and then hearing… “1st place Newton Community High School!” As a result of my time and dedication to the NCHS marching band, I also learned that it is important to be passionate about what you are doing in life. Music is a place where I feel the most in tune with myself. A sense of freedom and peace overcome me. For example; one of the most satisfying things for me was winning grand champion at marching competitions. Just being there with my friends, on pins and needles, wondering if our band had achieved maximum potential, was a feeling I’ll never forget!

How have your instructors and/or directors helped prepare you to perform at a collegiate level?

My musical directors here at NCHS have prepared me to perform at the collegiate level by holding me accountable, being persistent, and challenging me to be the best I can be on a daily basis. They made it easy for me to live up to their high standards because they were friendly and approachable when I had questions or concerns. Without their push and reassurance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What will you miss the most next year about not being a Newton Eagle?

Once I have graduated and moved on to being an OCC Knight, I will miss not being involved in the NCHS Marching Eagles. However, I will never forget the feeling of being involved in such an amazing organization! Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to thank the instructor, Mr. Baker, in the Olney Central College musical department for believing in me and offering me a tuition waiver, so I can continue my love of music as a Knight.
