Barthelme’s Walk-Off Hit Lifts Newton Eagles Over Paris Tigers in Extra-Inning Thriller

In a dramatic extra-inning showdown on Thursday night, the Newton Eagles Varsity 2025 squad pulled off a walk-off victory over the Paris Varsity Tigers, edging out a 1-0 win in the bottom of the eighth inning.

With the score locked at zero and tension rising, Kohlten Barthelme delivered the game’s decisive moment. His clutch single drove in the winning run, sending the Newton dugout into celebration and sealing a hard-fought battle between two evenly matched teams.

Both sides showcased dominant pitching performances. Newton’s ace, Drake Wolf, was nearly untouchable on the mound, throwing a complete eight-inning shutout while allowing just two hits. Wolf struck out seven and walked one in a gritty, composed performance. On the other side, Brody Quinn gave Paris a strong outing as well, allowing just one run on five hits across 7.1 innings, striking out five.

Though Barthelme recorded the lone RBI of the game, it was Reed Tharp who quietly sparked Newton’s offense, going 2-for-2 from the eighth spot in the lineup. Defensively, the Eagles were flawless. Dominic Baltzell anchored the infield with a team-high eight plays, helping ensure Wolf’s gem wasn’t spoiled.

Paris had chances of their own, with Kipton Bradford and Carter Eastham each logging a hit. Their defense also held firm, playing error-free ball behind Quinn. Parker Sanders led the Tigers with six defensive plays.
