Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held on Tuesday, February 18 th , 2025 in the office of the Board of
Education. Board members present were Mr. Brady Shull, Mrs. Jackie Schackmann, Mrs. Mandy
Rieman, Mrs. Holly Farley and Mrs. Mandi Utley. Board members absent were Mr. David Blecha.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.
Approval to Adopt the Agenda.
Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. Kristine Michels was present and
introduced herself.
There was one quarterly FOIA Request from SmartProcure dealing with district purchases.
Approval of Consent Agenda as presented.

Under the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Sornberger discussed the Energy Transition Grant. The State of
Illinois is finalizing the Energy Transition Grant. District funds will be reimbursed through the grant for
replacement of the Newton Elementary Roof, drawings, and bids for a building addition at Newton
Elementary School. He also mentioned the posting of a Board Vacancy. The deadline to apply for the
open Board position is Thursday, March 6, 2025 by 4:00 p.m.
Approval of the Bid for Joiner Sheet Metal Roofing for the Newton Elementary School Roofing Project
for $1,152,713.
No Closed Session was needed.
Approval to hire Taylor Gray as a NES Elementary Teacher for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Approval to hire Lily Hemmen as a NES Elementary Teacher for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Approval to hire Emily Ross as a NES Elementary Music Teacher for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Approval to hire Gabrielle Lyell as a NES Special Education Teacher for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Approval to hire Brooklyn Herman as a NES Full Time Substitute Teacher for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Approval to promote Patricia Cochran to Head NCHS Kitchen Manager and Cook effective immediately
for the 2024-2025 school year.
Approval to accept the Letter of Retirement from Brad Harris at the end of the 2027-2028 School Year.
Approval to accept the resignations from Cheryl James as the NCHS Golf Coach, Alyssa Klukis as the JCJH
Cheerleading Sponsor, Sarah Barthelme as a NES Special Education Teacher as of February 14, 2025,
Jordan Brewer as a NCHS/JCJH Night Custodian as of February 7, 2025, and Brad Powers as District
Maintenance as of January 28, 2025.
Approval to post for a NCHS Golf Coach position and a JCJH Cheerleading Sponsor position.
