Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held in the office of the Board of Education on Monday, January
16 th , 2023 held in the office of the Board of Education. Board members present were Mrs. Mandy
Rieman, Mrs. Holly Farley, Mr. Bill Meinhart, Mr. Brady Shull, and Mr. Jerry L. Jed Earnest. Members
absent were Mrs. Mandi Utley and Mr. Jason Kuhl.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.
Agenda was approved as presented.
Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. There were none.
There were 2 FOIA request status reports. FOIA #1 response to Pullen’s request for all video and/or
audio recordings from the December 19 th , 2022 Board of Education Meeting. FOIA #2 response to an
Anonymous request for all emails and text between Jasper County School District Board Members,
Effingham Unit #40 School District Board Members, and Superintendent Andrew Johnson.

Bills and Payroll,
Presentment of monthly financial reports,
Destruction of Closed Session Recording for December 17 th , 2019,
$665.25 from Knights of Columbus annual Tootsie Roll Drive to Newton Elementary for special education
supplies,
Two swing sets from Newton Elementary PTO to Newton Elementary playground,
$3000 from Athletic Boosters for track, softball, baseball and medical supplies,
$3500 from Jarrett Zumbahlen Family to go towards the NCHS Automotive Program
Approval of Disposition of Surplus of 70 Junior High Girls Basketball Uniforms,
Approval of Disposition of Surplus library books from Newton Elementary,
First Reading of PRESS POLICY updates and 5 year review,
Under the superintendent’s report, Mr. Sornberger discussed the need of developing a building plan to
address needs in all of the school district. He talked about concerns of buildings in Willow Hill and Ste.
Marie and discussed the need of at least a five year strategic plan for the district.
Approval of Option #2 Tax Levy for 2022 as presented,
Approval of Kings Financial Contract for services,
Approval of Fuel Bid from Wabash Valley Service Company for Jasper County Schools beginning February
1, 2023 through January 31, 2024, they were the only bid,
Approval of the NCHS Graduation on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the NCHS gymnasium,
No Closed Session was needed,
Approval of the resignation of Angela Newlin, NES School Counselor, effective January 3 rd , 2023,
Approval to advertise for an NES School Counselor effective immediately,
Meeting adjourned at 7:14 p.m. Next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 20 th ,
2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Board of Education Office.
