
Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held on Monday, November 18 th , 2024 in the office of the Board of
Education. Board members present were Mr. Brady Shull, Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mrs. Holly Farley, Mr.
Bill Meinhart, and Mrs. Mandi Utley. Board members absent were Mr. David Blecha and Mrs. Jackie
Schackmann.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.
Approval to Adopt the Agenda.
Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. There were none.
There was one FOIA Request from SmartProcure. This is a quarterly request for information dealing
with district purchases.
Approval of Consent Agenda as presented.
Regular Minutes and Closed Session Minutes for October 21 st , 2024,
Bills and Payroll,
Presentment of monthly financial reports,
$261 to the NCHS Girls Tennis Team from the Newton Athletic Boosters for sectional t-shirts,
$500 to the Bob Kerans Girls Basketball Tournament from the Bob Kerans Family,
$100 to the Volleyball Regional Hospitality Room from Newton Part Supply (NAPA),
$1,390 from the Jasper County Shrine Club to the Newton FFA,
$3,175 from Newton Athletic Boosters for the volleyball net system,
Declare a Lincoln Electric Ideal Arc 250 Welder from NCHS as surplus,
Declare old lighting console and stage lights from NCHS as surplus,
Declare two teacher chairs from NES as surplus,
Under the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Sornberger discussed the Summative Designation. The Jasper
County School District received state designations for testing early this month. Newton Community High
School and Jasper County Junior High were deemed as “Commendable Schools” for the 2023-2024
school year. Newton Elementary Schools increased test scores by 3% from the previous year for all
students. Although test scores improved, Newton Elementary School was deemed as a “Targeted
School” due to a subgroup of 20 or more students who did not meet state requirements. The District
will continue to work with our subgroups to meet requirements set forth by the State of Illinois.

Approval of Superintendent to apply for the State Maintenance Grant.
Krista McLaren from Kemper C.P.A. presented the FY 24 Audit. In this audit, the district was found to be
labeled “Recognition.” This is the highest rating for the audit.
Approval of the FY 24 Annual Financial Report,
Approval of posting the Tax Levy for 2024 – Option #3.
Approval to enter executive session at 7:31 p.m. for 1.5ILCS 120/2 (c) (1) – To consider information
regarding appointment, employment, compensation, performance or dismissal of individual employees;
1.5ILCS 120/2 (c) (5) – The Purchase or lease of real property for the use of the public body, including
meetings held for the purpose of discussing whether a particular parcel should be acquired; 5 ILCS 120/2
(c) (9) – Student disciplinary cases.
Approval to return to open session at 7:53 p.m.
Approval of the Resolution Regarding Student Disciplinary Action for Student 2024-01.
Approval of the Resolution Authorizing Issuance of a Notice of Remedial Warning to Tenured Teacher
Kimberly Runde.
Approval of the resignations of John Lidy as JCJH Head Track Coach and Justin Kelsheimer as JCJH
Assistant Track Coach.
Approval to hire Ms. Chelsea Cox, Mr. Justin Kelsheimer, Mrs. Rebecca Kennedy, Mrs. Jeena Kinder, Mrs.
Courtney Klier, Ms. Sidney Mayberry, Mrs. Dawn Meinhart, Mrs. Kashtyn Shull, Mrs. Vicki Wermert, and
Ms. Julia Whittler as tutors for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Approval to hire Shelby Lohman as JCJH Head Softball Coach.
Approval to employ Maglea Snyder as a District Paraprofessional for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Approval to advertise for a JCJH Head Track Coach, JCJH Assistant Track Coach, and a JCJH Assistant
Softball Coach.
