Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County Community Unit School District No. 1 held on Monday, November 13th, 2023 in the office of the Board of Education. Board members present were Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mrs. Holly Farley, Mr. Bill Meinhart, Mrs. Mandi Utley, Mr. David Blecha, Mr. Brady Shull and Mrs. Jackie Schackmann.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.
Approval to Adopt Agenda.
Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. JCJH Softball Coach, Sara Beam, introduced the Junior High Softball team athletes. The coaches and athletes thanked the board for supporting JCJH athletics.

Under the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Sornberger presented an update on the Annual Summative Designation on the Illinois Report Card. This year, the elementary and high school are commendable. Junior high will be on targeted support. The district will be on a four-year plan to address the issues in the area of children with disabilities.
Krista McLaren from Kemper C.P.A presented the FY 23 Annual Finance Report for the Jasper County School District. The District was found to be labeled “Recognition” which is the highest rating for the audit.

The District had two companies bid on labor for the high school roofing projects. Bid #1 is Lakeside Roofing for $531, 793. Bid #2 is Shay Roofing for $508,468. The District also had an alternative roofing bid for roofs which would be resealing the ag roofs compared to redoing them. Alternative Bid #1 is Shay Roofing for $409,342. The material cost from Omnia and Garland Materials is an estimated $171,447.

There was one bid for concrete from Smithenry Trenching for $77,159 for the NCHS Greenhouse project. There were no bids for the construction of the greenhouse.

The Board entered into executive session at 7:42 p.m. for 1.5 ILCS 120/2 ( c ) ( 1, 21, 10 ) – To Consider Information Regarding Appointment, Employment, Compensation or Dismissal of Individual Employees; minutes of meeting lawfully closed under the open meetings act (July 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019); the placement of individual students in special education programs and other matters relating to the individual students.

Approval to keep closed the Closed Session Minutes from June 30th, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
Approval to accept resignations from Andrea Cleaver as NCHS JV Softball Assistant Coach, Kryton McNair as NCHS Assistant Scholastic Bowl Coach, and Bethany Orsburn as a District Paraprofessional.
Approval to employ Tara Ederer as a District Paraprofessional effective immediately for the 2023-2024 School year.
Approval to advertise for a NCHS Assistant Softball Coaching Position, a NCHS Assistant Scholastic Bowl Coaching Position, and two Jasper County School District Bus Chaperone Positions.
Meeting adjourned at 8:04 p.m. Next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 18th, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Board of Education Office located at 1401 Clayton Avenue.
