Camryn Martin, daughter of Jerry and Heather Martin, will be attending the Lakeland Community College as a part of the softball team. During her time at NCHS, Camryn has been an active participant in activities including: track and field, softball, volleyball, basketball, Science Club, Math Club, BETA Club, Yearbook, and FCA Club.
What made you decide this school was the best fit for you?
- I chose Lakeland because it’s close to my hometown, allowing me to stay near my family. Additionally, the nursing program there is excellent, which aligns perfectly with my career aspirations. I feel like it’s the right balance of being close to home while also receiving the education I need to pursue my goals in nursing.
How do you feel NCHS has prepared you for this next step in life?
- NCHS likely gave me a solid foundation, not just academically but also in terms of personal growth. Whether it was through challenging coursework, extracurricular activities, or support from teachers and peers, it helped me develop skills like time management, critical thinking, and communication.
What are at least two life lessons you have learned from sports?
- Sports have taught me the importance of teamwork and resilience. Working together toward a common goal shows the value of communication, trust, and skills that extend beyond the game. Sports also taught me how to overcome setbacks, learning from mistakes, and pushing forward, which is a lesson I’ll carry with me in all areas of life.
How have your coaches (and assistant coaches) helped prepare you to play at a collegiate level?
- My dad, as my coach, has been instrumental in preparing me for the collegiate level. He pushed me to improve my skills, stay disciplined, and work hard. He also taught me how to handle pressure and maintain a positive attitude, which will be crucial as I move into college sports.
What will you miss the most next year about not being at NCHS?
- Being at NCHS has helped me form many lasting friendships, so leaving those connections will be tough. I’ll also miss playing four sports throughout the year, it’s hard to think about giving up the three sports I’ve been a part of for so long. It’s a bittersweet feeling knowing this chapter is coming to an end.
