Carl Allen Baker age 71, of Newton

Carl Allen Baker age 71, of Newton passed away peacefully Friday, October 9, 2026, at his home.

Funeral services honoring Carl’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Central Christian Church in Newton with Pastor Mike Knepper officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 12th in the church.  Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton with military rites by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion.

Carl was born on September 12, 1955, in Effingham, Illinois the son of Roy Ray and Marilynn Joann (Bickers) Baker.  Following high school, Carl faithfully served his country in the United States Navy.

Carl married Gwendolyn Harris on August 7, 1976.  She survives.

Carl retired from the City of Newton, where he served as the water plant supervisor.  Prior to his time with the city, Carl worked for the Illinois Central Gulf railroad for 11 years. Carl was a faithful member of the Central Christian Church in Newton.

Faith was first and foremost in Carl’s life.  He loved the Lord.  He enjoyed spending time reading his Bible and made a point to share his faith with others.  He also spent lots of enjoyable time with his children and wonderful grandchildren who called him Pepaw.  

Carl will be loved and remembered by his wife Gwen Baker; sons, Andy (Lilette) Baker and Jimmy Baker; daughter, Jordan (Kyle Brown) Baker; granddaughters, Scarlette Brown, Mia Brown, Tera (Josh) Zumbahlen; great-granddaughter Ashlynn Zumbahlen and a great grandson to be welcomed in February; siblings, Mike, Bryan, Bob, Karen and Connie.

His parents, Roy and Marilynn Baker, brother, Don and in-laws, Harvey and Marilyn Harris preceded him in death.

Memorial donations may be made to the Carle Hospice, Olney, Illinois.
