On June 27, 2023, The Maxine E. Spitler Foundation awarded grants to 16 applicants from the Illinois counties of Jasper and Lawrence. The County of Jasper has been selected to be awarded $565,615 from the Illinois Energy Transition Community Grant. On June 30th the Newton Knights of Columbus will host a KC style chicken night with dine-in and carry-out options from 4:30 to 7:00 pm or until sold out. The proceeds for the event will go to the purchase of a new ultrasound machine for the Newton Family Life Center.
