The library is currently hosting its Summer Reading Program and one of the entertainers during the weekly shows was a magician. Chad Coiller performed for a large audience many tricks and entertaining activities.
On June 27, 2023, The Maxine E. Spitler Foundation awarded grants to 16 applicants from the Illinois counties of Jasper and Lawrence. The County of Jasper has been selected to be awarded $565,615 from the Illinois Energy Transition Community Grant. This grant is tailored for communities such as ours who have been affected by the closure of coal-fired plants due to the Illinois Energy Transition Act. This is a multi-year award meaning

On June 30th the Newton Knights of Columbus will host a KC style chicken night with dine-in and carry-out options from 4:30 to 7:00 pm or until sold out. The proceeds for the event will go to the purchase of a new ultrasound machine for the Newton Family Life Center.
On July 8th at the Newton Public Library, there will be a meet and greet book signing for S. E. Drake from 10:30 to 12:30 pm. The Newton Public Library will be hosting a Summer Swim Party at the Newton Aquatic Center on July 14th from 7 pm to 9
