Cathie was born at home in Casey, IL on Sept. 26, 1940 to Dave & Irene (Alexander)
McReaken. She married Earl Gordon Buckner on July 19, 1959. She is survived by her husband
Earl; her three daughters Karla (Randy) Jones; Karen Taylor & Kris (Jeff) Birch. Grandchildren
Travis & Garrett Jones; Jeremy (Jenny) Taylor; Elizabeth (Ryan) Will; Allen Taylor (Keidrah
Hardiek) and Jessie Birch. Great-grandchildren Hazel Taylor; Emily, Lyle & Clara Will.
Cathie was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Ellen Harris & brother in-law
Maurice Harris; brother William “Bill” McReaken; father & mother in-law Allen & Flossie Buckner
& son-in-law James “Jim” Taylor, Jr.
Cathie and Earl made their home in Jasper county. Here Cathie was a wife, a mother, a
teacher, a mentor and a friend to many. She was an artist, a horsewoman, a farmer, a banker, a
trucker and a jewelry maker. These are just some of her many, many gifts and abilities.
Cathie was a farm wife and manager of this business. She was employed by the Peoples State
Bank of Newton, IL for 30 years where she retired as an assistant vice-president. Then there was
the trucking company that Earl & Cathie had for several years. She was the manager of this
business as well. After driving for years from farm to field to elevator (all the while working at
the bank) she secured her commercial driver’s license. From that point on, they spent most
vacations in the truck seeing this beautiful country. (As prudent as she was,,,,, might as well
make a dollar while being on vacation.) Upon her retirement from the bank, they continued to
travel the country in the truck, taking it all in.
Cathie was a devoted member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where among
other things, she served as an elder & Sunday school teacher.
Some of Cathies’ greatest joys were her Grandkids, Great grandkids, traveling our beautiful
country, going to car races around the country, working in flower beds, reading, being creative
with art and jewelry.
