City of Newton Needs Support for Safe Routes to School Grant

We, the City of Newton, are applying for a $250,000 SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School Program to improve the sidewalks, crosswalks, signs in high-traffic areas leading to our schools.

Being awarded this grant is not a given. There is an application process. We have to prove our need for better routes, develop an action plan and demonstrate that the community is behind this project. That’s where you come in.

We need letters of support signed by residents and businesses in the community. Please stop by City Hall M-F, 8 AM – 5 PM to sign a copy of the letter showing your support. The deadline to have letters returned to City Hall is 5 PM Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

This year’s grant is going to be HIGHLY COMPETITIVE, so the more support we have from the community the better.
