The Newton Community High School Varsity Eagles leaned on a masterclass performance from ace pitcher Amelia Collins to shut out the Altamont Varsity Lady Indians 2-0 on Friday evening.

Collins was electric in the circle, striking out 12 batters while allowing just one hit and issuing zero walks across seven complete innings. Her dominance set the tone for the Eagles, who capitalized early and never looked back.

Both teams showcased sharp pitching, combining for 21 strikeouts in the low-scoring affair. Altamont’s Grace Lemke was equally impressive despite the loss, fanning nine over six innings. She allowed just three hits and two earned runs while walking two. Lemke also etched her name in the highlight reel with an immaculate inning in the fifth—striking out the side on just nine pitches.

Newton got on the board in the first inning thanks to a wild pitch that brought in the game’s first run. Camryn Martin added an RBI to her stat line, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Addyson O’Dell sparked the Eagles’ offense from the top of the order, collecting two of the team’s three hits on the day.

The Eagles were flawless in the field, committing zero errors. Alisson Stanley anchored the defense with a team-high 13 chances.

Lemke recorded Altamont’s lone hit, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
