Eagles Defeat Mattoon With Walk Off By Harris

Newton Varsity Eagles seized victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off single at the end of the game to topple Mattoon.  The game was tied at six with Newton Varsity Eagles batting in the bottom of the twelfth when Payton Harris singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Newton Varsity Eagles collected 13 hits and Mattoon had 15.

Mattoon fired up the offense in the second inning.  Jason Skocy singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

In the top of the sixth inning, Mattoon tied things up at six.  Mattoon scored two runs when Owen Hawkins singled.

Newton Varsity Eagles tallied four runs in the fifth inning.  Isaac Flowers and Gage Reynolds all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Gus Bierman earned the win for Newton Varsity Eagles. The righty lasted one inning, allowing one hit and zero runs while walking one.  Max Meinhart, Carder Reich, and Dylan Gier all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Colton Comstock took the loss for Mattoon. The bulldog surrendered one run on six hits over six innings, striking out two.

Brandon Einhorn started the game for Newton Varsity Eagles. The righthander surrendered four runs on five hits over five innings, striking out two Joey Stewart started the game for Mattoon. The hurler lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out eight and walking zero

Newton Varsity Eagles hit one home run on the day. Reynolds went for the long ball in the fifth inning.

Newton Varsity Eagles racked up 13 hits.  Reich, Flowers, Bierman, and David Ferguson each had multiple hits for Newton Varsity Eagles.  Reich went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Newton Varsity Eagles in hits.

Mattoon scattered 15 hits in the game.  Brayden Weber, Cayden Knierim, Kaden Junge, and Madden Johnson each racked up multiple hits for Mattoon.
