The Newton Eagles defeated the Olney Tigers in the Championship game of the LIC tournament in Olney on Friday night. The nail-biter game kept the fans on their feet as the Eagles and Tigers battled it out. At the end of the first quarter, Olney had the lead 9-7. At the end of the half Olney was up by three with a score of 20-17. The Eagles returned to the court with fire in their hearts as they took the lead by the end of the third quarter with a score of 30-29. The final quarter held an energy only two rival teams closely battling out a championship can have and the Eagles came out victorious with 10 points in the fourth to the Tigers 8.
Lead scoring for the Eagles was Caden Nichols with 14 (5, 1, 1 of 1), followed by Parker Wolf with 9 (1,1, 4 of 6). Also contributing to the scoring was Jacob Weber with 7, Kye Bergbower with 4, and both Marc Jansen and Gus Bierman with two each.
