
The Newton Eagles boys basketball team opened their play in the LIC tournament being held in Lawrenceville with a loss on Saturday against Casey-Westfield. The Eagles started out strong with a 17-5 lead in the first quarter, however by the end of the second quarter their lead was only increased by one point making the halftime score 27-14. The Eagles would begin to falter losing their lead by the end of the third quarter when the Warriors scored 24 to the Eagles’ 15. The final quarter resulted in the Warriors increasing their lead at they scored 20 to the Eagles’ 11 bring the final totals to 53-58.
Scoring for the Eagles included: Kody Bergbower with 22 (5,2,6 out of 7), Hayden Mulvey with 19 (5,3), Lance Volk with 7 (1,1, 2 for 2), Jacob Oldham with 3 (1,0,1 out of 4) and Drew Earnest with a 2 pointer.
Leading the Eagles in rebounds was Quincy Fulton with 7, Volk and Mulvey with 6 each, and Bergbower with 5. Earnest also had three rebounds nad Oldham had two.
