Eagles Season Ends After Hard-Fought Regional Battle

The Newton Eagles volleyball team saw their postseason run come to an end on Wednesday night, falling to Carmi in straight sets, 14-25 and 11-25. Despite the loss, the Eagles wrapped up an outstanding season with a final record of 21-16, highlighted by earning a share of the Little Illini Conference Championship.

The Eagles’ offense was led by Hydi Bierman with nine kills, followed by Stella Schackmann with five. Amy Shull tallied 13 assists, while Morgan Schafer and Allie Hermann each recorded five digs on defense.

Head Coach Jill Kistner expressed pride in her team’s effort and the leadership shown by her senior class throughout the season.

“Our seniors have shown tremendous leadership and heart all season,” Kistner said. “They’ve set the tone for our program with their dedication, teamwork, and determination. This group has left their mark on Newton volleyball, and they’ll be greatly missed.”

Though the season ended sooner than hoped, the Eagles’ grit, growth, and success on the court this year have laid a strong foundation for the program’s future.
