
Eagles Shine on Senior Night
The Newton Eagles Cross Country teams delivered an impressive showing on Senior Night, with the girls capturing first place and the boys earning a strong second-place finish in front of a supportive home crowd.
For the girls, it was a dominant team effort led by Heather Bergbower, who crossed the line first overall in 18:20. Avery Geier followed in 19:10, and Nora Street finished close behind at 19:38. Josie Vogt (20:07) and Kimberly Bierman (20:26) rounded out Newton’s top five scorers, helping secure the team victory.
Senior runners Shay Bennett, Lily Yager, and Layna Marshall were honored for their dedication to the program and each finished together at 22:48, showcasing their teamwork one final time on their home course. Alivia Bierman also contributed with a time of 23:18.
The boys team also put together an outstanding race, finishing second overall. Hayden Borgic led the Eagles with a time of 16:16, followed by Johnnie Brant in 16:29 and Tanner Whitaker in 16:38. Alec Bower (17:13) and Kendall Probst (18:06) rounded out the scoring for Newton.
The meet served as a special farewell for seniors Borgic, Brant, and Whitaker, whose leadership and consistent performances have anchored the team throughout their high school careers.
Both squads will carry their momentum into the upcoming postseason meets as they look to continue their success and represent Newton with pride.
