Newton Eagles Struggle Against Fairfield Mules in 10-0 Loss
The Newton Eagles faced a tough challenge on Monday, falling to the Fairfield Mules in a 10-0 defeat.
Fairfield Mules opened the scoring in the top of the third inning with two singles. Jake Easton put Fairfield on the board with an RBI single.
Ian Puckett secured the win for Fairfield, allowing four hits and zero runs over four innings while striking out three and walking three. Logan Ochs took the loss for Newton, pitching two and one-third innings and giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits, with no strikeouts and two walks.
Kohlten Barthelme, Maddox Horner, Quincy Fulton, David Ferguson, and Gavin Meinhart each collected a hit for the Eagles. Fulton also stole two bases. The Eagles showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, and turned one double play.
Fairfield recorded 10 hits in the game. Puckett had a strong offensive performance, leading the team with three RBIs and going 2-for-4. Easton, Tallen Hixenbaugh, and Puckett each contributed two hits. A. Grieve stole two bases, and Fairfield played flawlessly in the field, with Karson White leading with nine defensive chances.
Newton Eagles Varsity 2025 Crushes Flora Wolves 18-0
The Newton Eagles Varsity 2025 dominated the Flora Varsity Wolves on Tuesday, scoring 10 runs in the third inning to secure an 18-0 victory.
Key offensive moments included a single by Dexter Fulton scoring one run, a double by Quincy Fulton driving in two runs, and a walk drawn by Dominic Baltzell to score another. Carson Barthelme and Hayden Mulvey each contributed RBI singles, and additional walks by Fulton and Ferguson helped push the lead further.
Newton took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Baltzell, a double by Barthelme, and a single by Mulvey. In the second inning, Drake Wolf hit a three-run homer, followed by an RBI single from Barthelme to extend the lead.
Barthelme earned the win, allowing just two hits and zero runs over four innings while striking out eight and walking one. Gage Parker took the loss for Flora, surrendering six runs on three hits in one inning, with no strikeouts and four walks.
Newton Eagles collected 12 hits, with Barthelme leading the charge, going 3-for-4. Wolf, Mulvey, Barthelme, Baltzell, and Quincy Fulton each drove in three runs. The team also demonstrated strong plate discipline, drawing 11 walks. Wolf, Baltzell, Fulton, Ferguson, and Meinhart each walked twice.
A standout moment came in the fourth inning when Barthelme threw an immaculate inning, striking out the side on nine pitches. Defensively, the Eagles played error-free, with Baltzell leading the team with eight plays.
For Flora, Trey Sharp and Parker each collected a hit. Despite turning two double plays, the Wolves struggled to contain Newton’s offense. Kormik Massie had five chances in the field to lead Flora defensively.
With a tough loss against Fairfield and a resounding victory over Flora, Newton Eagles Varsity 2025 continues to showcase resilience and skill on the field.
Newton Eagles Struggle Against Mascoutah in 11-0 Defeat
The Newton Eagles team faced a tough challenge on Thursday, falling 11-0 to Mascoutah Indians. Despite their efforts, the Eagles were unable to keep pace with Mascoutah’s powerful offensive display.
The game remained scoreless through the first inning, but Mascoutah got on the board in the second when Jake Rudy drew a walk, bringing in the first run of the game. The third inning proved pivotal, as Mascoutah exploded for five runs on just one hit. Austin Musso delivered the biggest blow with a three-run homer to left field, while an error and a sacrifice fly by Carson Moll added two more runs to the tally.
Musso also starred on the mound, securing the win for the Indians. The right-handed pitcher dominated across three innings, allowing just two hits while striking out eight and walking only one. Newton’s Kohlten Barthelme took the loss after pitching two innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on no hits, while striking out one and issuing four walks.
Drake Wolf led the Eagles’ offensive efforts, going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. However, Newton struggled to generate any additional offense, failing to push a run across against Mascoutah’s strong pitching and defense.
For the Indians, Musso proved to be a force both at the plate and on the mound, leading the team with five RBIs while going 2-for-3. Teammate Nolan Lebert also contributed with two hits. Mascoutah displayed excellent discipline at the plate, drawing six walks, with Cameron Eddy leading the way with two. Additionally, Darren Klein stole two bases as part of Mascoutah’s aggressive running game, which saw the team total four steals.
With this loss behind them, the Newton Eagles will look to bounce back as they prepare for their next matchup against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats on Friday.
