The Newton Eagles basketball team won the Consolation Championship at the Effingham – T-town Christmas Classic Tournament. Caden Nichols and Dylan Gier were named to the All-Tournament team.
The first game knocked the Eagles into the consolation bracket with a loss to Highland with a final score of 67-58. Lead scorers for the team included: Caden Nichols with 19, Parker Wolf with 17, and Dylan Gier with 12. .
The second game was versus Belvidere in which the Eagles won 75-67. Lead scoring came from Caden Nichols with 27 points, Parker Wolf with 22 points, and Dylan Gier with 13.
In the third game (second game of day two), the Eagles won against Pleasant Plains with a score of 53-29. Lead scoring for the Eagles came from Dylan Gier with 17, Caden Nichols with 10, and Parker Wolf with 9.
The consolation championship game was held in the Effingham High School main gym on December 30th. The Eagles defeated Mattoon with a final score of 53-40. Dylan Gier was the lead scorer with 17, Caden Nichols with 13, and Gus Bierman with 10.
