Eagles Win With Walk Off in 8th Inning

The Newton Eagles defeated Mt. Carmel with a final score of 4-3 on March 14. In the top of the first Max Meinhart doubled, Drake Wolf grounded out, and the Eagles scored on a passed ball each scoring one run in the top of the first. The Eagles scored the winning run in the top of the fifth when Isaac Flowers hit a solo home run.

Dylan Gier started on the mound allowing three hits and two runs over four innings striking out one and walking six. Gus Bierman was the relief for the Eagles. Wolf, Flowers, and Meinhart each drove in one run for the Eagles. Flowers led the Eagles with two hits in three at-bats. The Eagles turned one double play in the game.

The Eagles then faced Cowden Herrick Beecher City on Friday, March 15. The Eagles won in a walk-off bunt by Drake Wolf in the bottom of the 8th. The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first when Flowers doubled and Meinhart singled, each scoring one run. The Eagles jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Meinhart drew a walk, scoring one run, Kohlten Barthelme drew a walk scoring on run, and Gus Bierman doubled scoring two runs. The Eagles jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the eighth after Meinhart walked and Wolf singled each scoring one run.

Hayden Mulvey earned the win for the Eagles. He surrendered zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none. Gavin Meinhart pitched for innings in relief surrendering three hits and four runs (one earned) while striking out four and walking four. Harris started for the Eagles allowing seven hits and eight runs over three innings, striking out one and walking four.
