Evelyn Catherine McCreery, age 86

Evelyn Catherine McCreery, age 86, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:14 PM – Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Helia Health Care in Newton, Illinois.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Monday, April 15, 2024, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Father Pawel Luczak celebrating mass.   The burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois.  Visitation will be held Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 PM and 9:30-10:00 AM before Mass at the church.  In loving memory of Evelyn, memorials may be made to Helia Healthcare of Newton – Activity Fund.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.  The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left www.meyerfh.com.

Evelyn Catherine was born on November 16, 1937, in Bishop Creek Township in Effingham County, Illinois, the daughter of Herman and Cecilia (Voss) Niemerg.  She graduated from Teutopolis High School with the Class of 1955.  On May 2, 1959, Evelyn married Charles McCreery at Saint Aloysius Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on April 15, 2000.  

Evelyn worked various jobs starting at Collegiate Cap & Gown, Norma Eaton’s office, the Burger Bar and retiring from ER Moore Cap and Gown Factory in Newton, Illinois, retiring in November of 2002. 

Evelyn was a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois.  She loved being outdoors, gardening and canning her harvest.  Evelyn lived life to the fullest, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her friends.  She had a little gambling dream of winning millions but never did.  

Evelyn is survived by:

Children – Cathy (Brad) Rudolphi of Wendelin, Illinois; Mike McCreery of Newton, Illinois; and Terry (Mary Kay) McCreery of Chicago, Illinois.

Grandchildren – Sydney Rudolphi, Jack, Liam, Isla, and Carys McCreery

Siblings – Jeanette (Dick) Esker or Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Larry (Peggy) Niemerg of Baker, Montana 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Patty McCreery, siblings Herbert Niemerg, Celestine (Verna) Niemerg, Beatrice Niemerg, and Millie (Al) Borries.
