Strengths: “We bring back a good portion of our offensive line from last year and our defensive linebackers and secondary has a lot of experience. But most importantly the players have worked extremely hard and we feel good about the effort they will give each night.”
Competition – “Paris was the champ last year in the LIC, so I look for them to be very solid again. Olney was very good and returns a good portion of their team. Robinson is up and coming.”
“We really hope to have a winning season and make the playoffs this year.”
“To be successful we will need to work together and to stay healthy. Attitude is everything at this point and so far the attitude has been tremendous.”
“I feel very blessed to be around such good, hard working young men that are ready to compete and my coaching staff has done a great job preparing them!”

Returning Letterman 8
How many seniors do you have returning? Names?
4 Seth Weber, Parker Eaton, Noah Wright, Braden Bigard
What strengths does your team bring to the season?
“We bring a lot of experience to the table this year. Last year was very successful for us, with our first regional championship. We have a lot of the same guys coming back and are hopeful to build off of last year and put together another very successful season.”
Who will be your greatest competition this season?
“We play a pretty tough schedule in general. Several schools on our schedule are a class above us as far as size goes. Charleston, Mattoon, Effingham, Olney will all be tough. TTOWN and St. Anthony as well.”
What special events or tournaments will your teams be playing in this year? St. Anthony Invitational Tournament and Mattoon Mid-Season Invitational Tournament
What do you feel your team will need to do to succeed this year?
“We’ve just got to be consistent on everything we do. We have the skills and the ability, we just need to make sure we show that every game.”

Assistant Coach Sandy Webb
Returning Letterman 6 Returning Letterman: Seniors Jacelyn Street, Allison Harris, and Claire Griffith. Juniors Madison Emmerich and Lindsey McClain. Sophomore Jessilyn Hall
How many seniors do you have returning? Names?
Four of our five Seniors are returning players. Jacelyn Street is a 3-year letter woman, who continues to lead the team at the #1 Singles position. Following her are Allison Harris and Claire Griffith, both lettering the last two years. Kierstin Clark is a returning Senior for the team and Coco Lin has joined this year as a Senior.
What strengths does your team bring to the season?
“Our team is bringing depth of ability this year. We should be able to play competitively throughout the varsity positions.”
Who will be your greatest competition this season?
“Until we see some of our competitors in action, I’m not certain who our biggest competition will be this year. In the LIC, Flora always competes well, along with Olney and Robinson. Paris usually has numbers to work with which is always a great asset and Casey has some strong players at the top of their roster as well.”
What special events or tournaments will your teams be playing in this year?
“We will compete in five tournaments before Sectionals again this year. Fairfield and Robinson have added new tournament opportunities as they are replacing the Salem and Casey Invites that were held in past years. We will again complete our season with the LIC conference tournament and then Sectionals which is the State Qualifier.”
What do you feel your team will need to do to succeed this year?
“Consistency. Always consistency. Our players have a knowledge of good skills and how to use them. The goal is to implement those skills with consistency.”
Is there anything else you would like to add?
“We have a nice sized team again this year with 19 total players. It’s great to see the continued interest of girls wanting to learn and participate in the “Lifetime Sport” of tennis!”
NCHS Head Coach Brock Tarr
Jackie is cross country assistant.
Abby Stone is girls captain and Nick Zwilling is girls captain.
We have four returning seniors this year. Abby Stone, Claire Carr, Eliza Bierman and Cora Buerster.
This year we have a good group of athletes that have worked hard in the off season and are willing to work. I think that is our greatest strength.
This year I look for the Olney boys team to be very competitive and on the girls side Casey has a good group and Lawrenceville may be good as well.
This year we have added a few key meets. We are attending the first to the finish meet in Edwardsville, which a premier meet for downstate and metro area. Also we are running at Chrisman in the cowchip classic. Our last new meet is the Patriot Invite in Peoria, which is ran on the same course as the state finals meet.
This team needs to believe in one another and in themselves in order to compete at their highest level. They have trained well and need to trust that they can push themselves farther then they think they can go.
