


Newton — At approximately 5:57 p.m. Sunday, April 13, the Wade Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of heavy smoke at 508 Liberty Avenue. Upon arrival, the first engine crew observed heavy fire emerging from the west side of the residence.
Firefighters immediately deployed 2¾-inch pre-connected hose lines and made entry into the home to conduct an interior search. During the search, a victim was located on the first floor of the residence and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Crews successfully brought the fire under control within 15 minutes of arrival. Once the fire was extinguished, the scene was secured and both the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the County Coroner’s Office were notified.
At this time, no names have been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
