These students from Newton Community High School competed at the Regional level of FBLA and placed in the top five in their respective categories. Being in the top five, these students will advance to the State Competition.
Approximately 40 Newton Community High School students participate in FBLA (Future Business Leaders
of America). Ms. Gail Turner, NCHS Business teacher is the adviser for this extra-curricular activity. FBLA
inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society
through relevant career prep. And leadership experiences. The program focuses on leadership
development, educational programs, community service, and academic competitions. The students
choose a business topic that is interesting to them or perhaps a future career choice. They choose two
topics which can be online testing or face-to-face presentations. A few of the topics include, Agri-
Business, Accounting, Intro to Business Communication, Job Interview and Sales Presentation.
The students first competition is held regionally, then state, and then to nationals. Regionals is held at
OCC (Olney Central College). This year the following students placed at regionals and will be attending
state at Springfield, in April.
1 st place – Allison Einhorn, Insurance & Risk Management; Alivia Huddleston, Management Decision
Making; Nick Shamhart, Introduction to FBLA, Tayor Utley, Help Desk; Eli Weber, Business
Communications; Logan Weber, Computer Applications.
2 nd place – Emily Baltzell, Introduction to Public Speaking; Allison Harris, Accounting 1; Jean Lin,
Introduction to Financial Math; Taylor Utley, Introduction to Business; Logan Weber, Computer Problem
Solving; Caelan Wilson, Business Law; Jenna Yealick, Agri-business, Yarauseth Zavala, Word Processing as
well as Graphic Design.
3 rd place – Kierstin Clark, Business Law; Tyden Goad, Business Communications; Eli Weber,
Organizational Leadership; Tristan Will, Health Care Administration.
4 th place – Madison Emmerich, Advertising; Taryn Johnson, Job Interiview, R.J. Lindemann, Public
Speaking, Tristan Will, Business Calcuations.
5 th place – Kenneth Hartke, Advertising; R.J. Lindemann, Impromptu Speaking; Caelan Wilson, Job
Interview, Jeanna Yealick, Political Science.
These students will choose one out of their two topics to test on for state. Congratulations NCHS
