On February 22, 2022, the GFWC-Newton Jr. Woman’s Club met at Flo’s Coffee Bar for their monthly meeting. Members present included Heather Martin (President), Cindy Borgic (Treasurer), Angie Kocher, Kara Deitz, Shirley Hoffeditz, and guest Melissa Brown.
The meeting was called to order by Heather. The Pledge of Allegiance, Junior Pledge, and Conservation Pledge were said. Heather read the minutes from January’s meeting. The club approved them as read. Cindy gave the Treasurer’s report. Angie noted that it was confirmed by St. Thomas that the Breakfast with Santa will be December 10th, 2022. Shirley and Angie shared that they have already been shopping for items for the event. The club is also accepting donations and/or regifting items that are in good shape to add to the shopping tables. Plans for the upcoming Prevent Child Abuse 5k on April 10th were discussed. Cindy noted that the website for participants to sign up and pay was up and running. A picture of the t-shirt for this year’s event was also shared so that the club could look at it. It will also be on the NJWC Prevent Child Abuse 5K facebook page for participants to view and register for the event. The deadline for sponsors to donate was set for March 20th to allow Designs Unlimited time to create the final layout before printing the shirts. Upon approval, fliers for the event will be distributed to area schools. The 5k Committee set another date to discuss more details for the event. Plans for the Jasper County Fair were discussed. This year the fair will be June 19-25th. The club would like to raise funds to buy a new lemonade stand that could be pulled easily to fundraisers. Members were going to reach out to various individuals and schools to see if building one would be feasible. Also discussed at the meeting was the process for setting up a scholarship for area students. The club members closed out the meeting by saying the Collect for club Women and setting the next meeting date for 6:00p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Flo’s Coffee Bar in Newton. The Newton Jr. Woman’s Club would gladly welcome any ladies interested in belonging to an organization that focuses on improving the lives of others within our community.
