“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” A priceless quote from The Lorax. It is the time of year when our community comes together to help those who need a little extra assistance in completing projects through Honey Do Ministries. In our community this year, there are over 50 families and over one hundred projects in need of completion to improve our community and the lives of our neighbors and friends.
Whether it is a few hours or the entire week, each and every person who helps can make a difference in the lives of those around them and know they have left a mark of kindness and compassion behind as they leave the worksite. Your talents are needed in areas ranging from kitchen help, visiting with the elderly, to skilled masons, construction workers, and roofers along with many other skills in-between. The assignments will work with the skills, knowledge and comfort level you have and enhance your strengths with the overall goal of not only completing the project, but making this an opportunity for you to give to others and even enjoy the work.
The day begins around 7 am each morning at Grace United Methodist Church in Newton (one block west of the square on Washington Street). Breakfast and devotions are provided before handing out job assignments.
At noon, an air conditioned lunch will be provided with the location varying by your assignment location).
By 5pm the day’s work will be halted and an evening meal will be held at a church in Newton.
Since the projects vary, it is recommended to wear old clothing and shoes, work gloves and a reusable water bottle or cup. If you have yard work tools and are willing to bring them they will definitely come in handy.
All ages are welcome, however, under the age of 13 it is requested to have a parent or guardian stay with them to assist them.
Small groups, families, churches, or youth groups are definitely welcome and this does make a wonderful service opportunity.
The group does ask “If you would like more info or if you are planning on bring a large or specifically skilled group please contact Debbie (618) 554-4987 or Quincy (618) 553-4690.”
