HOPE Game Brings Hope to Eagles Season (Pre-game, Game and Halftime Photos included)

The Newton Eagles were the host of the annual HOPE game this year. This game is an amazing fundraising event for our Richland and Jasper County cancer fighters organized by Carle Richland Memorial Hospital. Steffanie Stark was recognized during the honorary coin toss before the game. Steffanie has had two sons who played for the Newton Eagles and is a cancer survivor.

The Newton Eagles scored the first touchdown of the game when Max Meinhart hands off the ball at the 14 to Meyer TYarr who ran it into the endzone for an 11 yard gain. The extra point was no good.

Richland County then scored the next touchdown when Runyon ran the ball from the 23 into the endzone. The Tigers also missed the extra point.

The Eagles scored one final touchdown in the first quarter when Meinhart threw a pass completion to Evan Zumbahlen who ran the ball from the 45 into the endzone for a 93 yard gain. The two point conversion is good when Meinhart passes the ball to Gus Bierman who carries the ball into the endzone. During the second quarter the Eagles score the final touchdown of the half when Meinhart hands the ball to Tarr for a 4 yard gain to the endzone. The extra point is no good when McKinley blocks kicker Hayden Mulvey and the ball is declared dead.

During the second half of the game, the Tigers scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. The first was when McKinley had a 43 yard gain after running the ball from the 46. The two point conversion was good when McKinley ran the ball into the endzone. The second was when McKinley ran the ball for a six yard gain into the endzone. The two point conversion was stopped when Gus Bierman and Cole Elme tackled McKinley.

The Eagles scored the final touchdown of the game when Meyer Tarr ran the ball from the seven. Max Meinhart dropped back and threw the two point conversion to Gus Bierman who carried the ball into the endzone.
