James Edward “Monk” Leahy age 69, of Newton passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at his home.
Cremation rites will be accorded to Mr. Leahy. Private family interment services will be held. Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Newton, Illinois.
James was born on May 1, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of Phillip and Mary Lou (Dhom) Leahy. James served his country in the Army National Guard. He retired from J.B. Esker & Sons Concrete Construction, where he worked as a concrete finisher.
In his free time, James loved to spend time his friends. He enjoyed card games, especially Texas Hold’em. He enjoyed watching football. James was a good man who will be missed by his family and many friends.
James will be loved and always remembered by his dear companion Birgit Leahy of Newton; son James White of Newton; step-son Tommy Huy of Willow Hill; a granddaughter and brothers Paul “Preach” Leahy of Newton, Duane Menke of Newton, Tim Menke of Newton and Dennis Menke of Champaign and an uncle Allen Dhom of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Charlie Leahy and Tom Menke.
