Jasper County Community Unit #1, Board of Education Meeting Board Report

Report September 25, 2023

Budget Hearing:

  • Jasper County School District discussed the tentative budget for FY 24 and the beginning fund balances for the start of the fiscal year.
  • Overall, the district ended the FY 23 in good standing with revenues exceeding budgeted numbers and expenditures less than predicted.
  • The budget for FY 24 looks to be balanced in the Operation and Maintenance Fund and Transportation Fund.  The Education Fund is not balanced at this time, but is expected to balance at the end of the year.

Board Leader Recognition:

  • Mandy Rieman was recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards for their Annual Merit Recognition Award for 2023.
  • This award is presented to board members who participate in a number of professional development and leadership activities during their service as a school board member.
  • IASB recognizes school board members who show a dedication and desire to learn more about local school governance, adding to their leadership skills, knowledge of state and national educational issues, and commitment to serving in trust of their community and their students.

Superintendent’s Report:

  • After outlining the FY 24 Budget, the superintendent updated the Board on current projects and the potential for new building projects down the road.
  • In the approach to new projects, the superintendent outlined that they must fit into the budget and be something that we can afford.  
  • There have been several ideas floated in the past for projects, but a few of those projects have ever come to fruition.
  • The District will continue to look at grant opportunities to help in any new project.

New Business

  •  Approved the FY 24 Budget 
  •  Approved the FY 24 FFA Alumni and JCCU1 Agreement for the 3 Circles Grant
  •  Approved  Faith Smith as a Part Time Contracted Counselor for Jasper County 

School District 

  • Approved to Seek Bids for Labor on Jasper County Junior High School Roof 

            and Portions of Newton Community High School  Roof    

Action out of Executive Session

  • Approve to keep closed session minutes closed from July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.   

Resignations/Retirements

  • Approved retirement of Christie Waggner as a district bus driver as of January 1, 2024 as a bus driver.
  • Approved resignation of Brooke Overbeck as a district paraprofessional as of September 13, 2023.    

Hires

  • Approved the hire of Jordan Brewer as the NCHS Night Time Custodian.
  • Approved the hire of Jill Michl as a bus chaperone.
