Jasper County Health Department

Nursing Division

The Nursing Division of Public Health currently has 12 employees.  We offer a variety of services available to the county. We offer the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program for pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to the age of 5 years who meet eligibility requirements.  Through this program, we provide nutrition education along with a physical assessment, dental varnish and support for these families. The WIC program is a supplemental food program funded by the Department of Agriculture.  Another program, the Family Case Management (FCM) program, we help families with resources they need to raise a family.  We have a diaper/ pullup program that helps with diapering and potty-training needs for persons enrolled in the WIC/FCM program.  A breastfeeding peer counselor is available 24/7 for WIC breastfeeding moms needing support.  We have 2 nurses that oversee the Healthworks program, a program that helps foster families to make sure that their foster children are getting the services they need, and these nurses provide lots of information to DCFS caseworkers about these foster infants/ children’s medical records and this helps the foster parent/ foster child relationship.

We also provide lab services, drug screens, immunizations, blood pressures, lead screenings, school nursing services, vision/ hearing screens and the Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) class at the high school.  We are able to bill Lab Select insurance for labs and we offer significantly reduced rates for self-pay for labs so please call if you would like to compare cost for your lab orders.  Our drug screen program offers a variety of testing options, including quick tests, DOT and non-DOT sendoff tests, E-screen tests, etc.  We have a drug screen consortium available that meets all of the requirements for federal audits.  We have immunization clinics by appointment on the first and third Tuesdays of every month.  We accept Medicaid, Insurance and cash payments for immunizations.  We provide lead screenings along with our WIC/FCM appointments or schedule individual appointments for those needing only a lead screen.  We provide nursing services for St. Thomas school and provide vision/ hearing screens for preschool screens.

We schedule appointments Monday through Friday and have appointments as early as 7 a.m. for several services along with appointments available over lunch hour and as late as 5 p.m. some days.
