Jasper County Residents Can Expunge their Cannabis Records for Free through New Leaf Illinois
(CHICAGO)…. Leaders from New Leaf Illinois are encouraging Jasper County residents to see if they qualify for free legal help to clear old marijuana convictions off their record.
New Leaf Illinois, funded by the state of Illinois, is a network of nonprofit organizations that provide free cannabis expungement legal services. Since its launch in 2020, New Leaf has helped more than 3,000 residents in 86 Illinois counties.
However, to date, no residents in Jasper County have taken advantage of the program.
“We’ve seen many lives changed through New Leaf since having a cannabis conviction can make it harder to get a job, rent housing or pursue education. That’s why we want to make sure all Illinois communities are aware of the program and how it can help people gain a fresh start,” said Daniel Kuehnert , Senior Attorney at Land of Lincoln Legal Aid. Land of Lincoln is the local partner of New Leaf Illinois.
To get started, people can visit newleafillinois.org, or call (855) 963-9532. A legal aid professional will then get in touch about potential next steps.
