Jasper Unit 1 Board of Education June Minutes

Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held on Monday, June 23 rd , 2025 in the office of the Board of
Education. Board members present were Mrs. Jackie Schackmann, Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mr. Evan
Semple, Mrs. Nichole Mulvey, Mrs. Mandi Utley and Mr. David Blecha entered at 6:25 p.m. Board
members absent were Mr. Brady Shull.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.
Th FY 25 Amended Budget has been on display the past 30 days at the district office. There were no
public comments or testimony. Mr. Joe Sornberger discussed the FY 25 Amended Budget. The
Amended Budget Hearing was adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
Approval to Adopt the Agenda.
Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. Matthew Mette expressed his concerns
regarding annexations. Tiffany Keller expressed her thoughts about school building and property
maintenance.
The District received three FOIA Requests. SmartProcure requested a quarterly report on District
finances. CT Mills requested Information on District Administration. Michael A. Ayele requested School
Shooting information.

Under the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Sornberger discussed an update on Buildings and Grounds.
Roofs are being replaced at the high school and Newton elementary buildings. Staff in all buildings are
cleaning up from the school year. Drawings continue to be developed on the Newton Elementary
Addition.
Approval of the FY 25 Amended Budget.
Approval of School Registration Fees for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Approval of the Title I Schoolwide Plans for SME, NE, JCJH and NCHS.
Approval of the Consolidated District Plan for 2025-2026.
Approval of the Dual Credit Agreement with Illinois Eastern Community Colleges.
Approval of the NCHS Athletic Handbook and the JCJH Athletic Handbook for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Approval of the trip to New York City for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Approval to enter executive session at 7:25 p.m. for 1.5ILCS 120/2 (c) (1) – To consider information
regarding appointment, employment, compensation, performance or dismissal of individual employees;
1.5ILCS 120/2 (c) (2) – Collective Bargaining matters between the public body and its employees or their
representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees;
1.5ILCS 120/2 (c) (11) – To discuss matters of possible or pending litigation.

Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding for Contract Adjustments to the 2022-2026 Collective
Bargaining Agreement for the 2025-2026 Contract Year.
Approval of Contract Renewals for NCHS Principal Beth Probst, NES Principal Jessica Guzman, SME
Principal/Special Needs Coordinator Jennifer Bales, and NES Assistant Principal Ryan Klier for the 2025-
2026 School Year.
Approval to accept the resignation from Mary Jo Walk as a NES Resource Teacher and to accept the
letter of retirement from Rex Woods as a District School Bus Driver at the end of the 2024-2025 school
year.
Approval to hire Jessica Schackmann as a NES Elementary Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.
Approval to hire Sydney Thoele as a NES Elementary Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.
Approval to hire Amy E. Allen as a Special Education Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.
Approval to hire Cathryn Homan as a NCHS/JCJH Full-Time Substitute Teacher for the 2025-2026 school
year.

Approval to advertise for a District School Bus Driver for the 2025-2026 school year.
Meeting adjourned at 8:28 p.m. Next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 21 st , 2025 at
6:30 p.m. at the Board of Education Office located at 1401 Clayton Avenue.
