Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held in the Board of Education offices, Monday, January 20, 2020.
Board members present were Mr. Gordon Millsap, Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mr. Bill Meinhart, Mr. Jon
Fulton and Mrs. Mindy Street. Members absent: Mrs. Holly Farley and Mr. Jason Kuhl.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Gordon Millsap called the meeting to order.
The agenda was adopted as presented.
Under the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Johnson informed the board of the next building committee
meeting on February 10 at 6:30pm at the unit office.
Mrs. Probst presented an update to the School Report Card. Not much has changed since last month.
Star360 benchmarking has started, this is to compare fall scores to winter scores. IAR testing begins
March 16. February 20 will be a Title night at NCHS featuring Corey Jones, he will speak during the day
for the students and again that evening for the public. February 5, Keri Garrett with ISBE and the
learning partners will be in the district to see what needs to be done next with the lowest designation
for JCJH.
Gordon asked for recognition of guests and public comments, there were none.

Approval of final reading of PRESS Plus Policy updates.
Approval of fuel bid with Wabash Valley FS.
Discussion about building projects.
Discussion of a $50,000 matching school maintenance grant. We will have a special meeting on Monday,
February 3 at 5pm to approve this grant.
Approval to hire Megan Marks as a math teacher at NCHS beginning the 2020-2021 school year.
Approval to hire Kelly Iffert as a paraprofessional at Newton Elementary beginning immediately.
Approval to hire Jessica Marshall as a night custodian at Newton Elementary beginning immediately.
Approval to hire Greg Silas as a night custodian at Jasper County Junior High School/Newton High School
beginning immediately.
Approval of the retirement of Nancy Zwilling as head cook at Newton Community High School effective
January 10, 2020. Nancy began at Ste. Marie Elementary in 1997 then Newton Community High School
until retirement. Thank you for your many years of dedicated service.
Approval of the resignation of Jordan Michels as the Jasper County Junior High head baseball coach
effective immediately.
Approval to hire John Lidy as the head boys/girls track coach at Jasper County Junior High beginning
immediately.
Approval of a maternity leave for Newton Elementary 3 rd grade teacher Jamie Martin middle of April and
will continue through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Jamie will return August 2020.
Approval to advertise for (2) elementary teachers to start with the 2020-2021 school year and a Junior
High Head baseball coach to start with the 2020-2021 season.
The board went into executive session at 7:12pm for 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c ) ( 1 ) – To consider information
Regarding Appointment, Employment or Dismissal of Individual Employees, 5 ILCS 120/2 ( C ) ( 5 )
Purchase of lease of real property and 5ILCS 120/2 ( c ) ( 21) – To Discuss Minutes lawfully closed under
the open meeting act. January 21, 2016 through June 6, 2016.
Approval to return to open session at 7:32pm.
Meeting adjourned at 7:32pm.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 17, 2020 at 6:30 pm at the Board Office.
