Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held on Monday, July 15 th , 2024 in the office of the Board of
Education. Board members present were Mr. Brady Shull, Mr. David Blecha, Mrs. Jackie Schackmann,
Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mrs. Holly Farley, Mr. Bill Meinhart, and Mrs. Mandi Utley.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.
Agenda was approved as presented.
Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. There were none.
There were no FOIA Requests.
Approval of Consent Agenda as presented.
Regular Minutes and Closed Session Minutes for June 17 th , 2024, Buildings and Grounds Committee June
21 st , 2024, and Special Meeting Minutes for July 8 th , 2024.

Declare 8 old junior high cheerleading uniforms from JCJH as surplus,
Declare 4 school chairs and 10 student desks from Newton Elementary as surplus,
Under the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Sornberger discussed how the District ended the fiscal year in
good standing with revenues exceeding budgeted numbers and expenditures less than predicted. The
District has used ESSER III funds to help pay for the current HVAC project. The Community Partnership
Grant was utilized on various projects in the community including the NCHS Greenhouse. Both of these
grants will end for Fiscal Year 2025 (School Year 2024-2025).
Approval to use the Energy Transition Community Grant for architect fees for construction of the new
addition at Newton Elementary and the roof repair project at Newton Elementary.
Mr. David Blecha exited the meeting.
Approval to purchase a used SUV vehicle for District use.
Approval to seek bids for seven new buses and one new mini bus for Fiscal Year 26.
Approval of Workers Compensation Renewal for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Approval of Property and Casualty Renewal for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Approval of Cooperative Agreement for IESA between Jasper County Junior High and St. Thomas for the
purpose of Girls Softball, Boys and Girls Cross Country, and Girls Basketball during the 2024-2025 and
2025-2026 School Years.
Approval of the Embarras River Basin Agency Head Start Agreement for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Approval of Title I Schoolwide Plans.
Approval of the Superintendent to hire district staff from July 16 th , 2024 to August 19 th , 2024.
Approval of the Superintendent’s memberships and conferences for the 2024-2025 School Year.

Approval of the resignation of Darla Mahaffey as an NES Physical Education Teacher effective July 31 st ,
2024.
Approval to employ Courtney Klier as the Full-Time Substitute Teacher at NES for the 2024-2025 School
Year.
Approval to employ Josie Meinhart as an Elementary Physical Education Teacher at NES for the 2024-
2025 School Year.
Approval to employ Dan Blankenship as the FBLA Sponsor for the 2024-2025 School Year and Valerie
Sanguinetti as the Junior Class Sponsor for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Approval to employ Rebecca Kocher as a Lunchroom Supervisor/Paraprofessional/Custodian/Bus
Chaperone for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Approval to advertise for a Volunteer FCA Advisor for Sixth Grade FCA Club for the 2024-2025 School
Year.
