Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held in the Board of Education offices by virtual zoom due to
COVID 19, on Monday, April 20, 2020. Board members present were Mr. Gordon Millsap, Mr. Jon
Fulton, Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mrs. Mindy Street, Mr. Bill Meinhart, Mr. Jason Kuhl and Mrs. Holly Farley.
Members absent: None.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Gordon Millsap called the meeting to order.
The agenda was adopted as presented.
Under the superintendent’s report, Mr. Johnson reported the current building projects will be put on
hold until the state’s economic outlook in the coming months is clearer. The district did receive the
school maintenance project grant which is a $50,000 matching grant through ISBE, we will be removing
asbestos at Newton Elementary and putting down new tile.
Gordon asked for guests and public comments. There were none.
Approval of the consent agenda:
Regular and closed session minutes from March 16, 2020,
Bills and Payroll,
Presentment of monthly financial reports,
Destruction of closed session recording for April 19, 2018,
Donation from Newton Athletic Booster Club with many thanks in the amount of $5,351.85 for the cost
of a gravely diamond groomer and the shipping of the machine.
Approval of the Consolidated District Plan for 2020-2021 academic year as required by ISBE.
Approval to renew the food contract with OPAA for the 2020-2021 school year.
Approval of dual credit memorandum of agreement and additional licensure memorandum of
agreement for a high school teacher to be able to teach dual credit.
Approval of yearly IESA Membership for 2020-2021.
Approval of IESA Cooperative Agreement between Jasper County Junior High and St. Thomas School for
the purpose of girls softball, boys and girls cross country and girls basketball for the 2020-2021 and
2021-2022 school years.
Approval of the resignation from Becca Ochs as NCHS Assistant Volleyball coach effective immediately
and to approve her as a volunteer for this position.
Approval to hire Julia Parrish as NCHS English Teacher to start with the 2020-2021 school year.
Approval to advertise for a NCHS assistant volleyball coach for the 2020-2021 school year.
There was no closed session.
