Jerald D. Jones age 95, of Wheeler passed away Friday, April 26, 2024 at his home.
Cremation rites will be accorded to Mr. Jones. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, May 3, 2024, at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rick Britton officiating. Military rites will be offered by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion.
Jerald was born on March 30, 1929 in Newton, Illinois the son of Harold G. and Maude V. (Davis) Jones. Jerald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He also served six years in Germany. On March 7, 1958, Jerald married Hazel Kennedy. They shared forty-seven years of marriage before her passing on September 10, 2005. Following his time in service, Jerald owned and operated a restaurant in California. He later returned to Jasper County. He owned, operated and was the mechanic for his auto repair shop and gas station in Wheeler, Illinois until his retirement. He liked being helpful to others. To his family and close friends, he always like to remind them that he was the Chief and liked being in charge.
Survivors include step-son David Rooks of Cameron Park, CA; great niece Katie Jones of Wheeler; caregiver Kari Schramm of Wheeler; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife Hazel, daughter Sue Jones, brothers Gordon Jones and Mauriece Jones and sister Allice Lewis preceded him in death.
