Labor Day Chicken and Noodle Fundraiser Planned in Palestine

OBLONG, IL—The annual Labor Day Chicken and Noodle dinner, as prepared and served by the Oblong Children’s Christian Home, will be offered at the Palestine Park on Monday, September 2nd. The meal will include chicken and noodles (cooked in an open, outdoor kettle), green beans, salad, dessert (homemade cobbler), and drink. Make plans now to get yours for only $8.00 per meal.

Annually, as a part of the Pioneer City Labor Day celebration in Palestine, the children and staff members from the Oblong Children’s Christian Home prepare and serve a grand dinner for festivity attendees. Dinner service begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Palestine park and continues until the food is gone. The Home will also be selling chicken and noodles by the pound for participants to take with them.

Cinnamon rolls, hand-made and sought-after annually by parade-goers, will be available for $1.50 prior to the famous Labor Day Parade, a highly anticipated event of Pioneer City Days. Rolls will be served from both the park pavilion and from a stand in front of the opera house downtown. Act fast!

This event requires collaboration with volunteers in addition to the Home’s staff and children. In advance, the Home would like to thank those who are donating time and effort to the cause, including out-of-town guests who are arriving from Cornerstone Church outside of St. Louis on Friday afternoon. Many members from the Home’s Board of Directors will also be on-hand to assist with the dinner.

“This is an enjoyable fundraiser for the staff members and children at the Home. The kids and our houseparents work very hard to ensure that things go smoothly, and it’s a nice opportunity to be out in our community, sharing the ministry with local folks,” said Amy Kemp, Executive Director – Operations for the Children’s Home.

All proceeds benefit the interest group programs on the campus; interest group activities have included historical trips, survival trips on the Current River, and fishing expeditions. The Children’s Home is a non-profit home that houses abused, troubled, and neglected children. The Oblong Children’s Christian Home, with its satellite facility in Fairfield, IL, provides homes with unconditional love, teaches God’s truth to the residents, and develops each child’s strength.
