Lady Eagles Dominate Red Hill 13–1 in Season Opener
The Newton Community High School Lady Eagles opened the 2026 softball season in impressive fashion Tuesday evening, defeating the Red Hill Salukis 13–1 at home.
Newton wasted no time setting the tone, scoring two runs in the first inning before erupting offensively in the middle innings. The Lady Eagles plated six runs in the third and five more in the fourth to take full control and secure the victory.
Newton finished the game with 13 runs on 13 hits, while committing just one error defensively. Red Hill managed one run on two hits.
Big Night at the Plate
The Lady Eagles had contributions throughout the lineup.
Claire Probst (#15) led the way, going 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBIs.
Hydi Bierman (#1) added a triple and two RBIs, finishing with two hits.
Jorija Reich (#5) also had a strong day, collecting two hits and three RBIs, while Emma Brooks (#10) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Additional offensive contributions came from:
- Audrie Reich (#13) – 2 hits and 2 runs scored
- Lexie Ghast (#24) – RBI double
- Gabby Flowers (#2) – 2 hits and an RBI
- Izzy Meinhart (#4) – base hit and run scored
- Jacee Dhom (#26) – RBI single
Newton’s offense included two doubles and a triple, along with aggressive baserunning that kept pressure on the Salukis defense.
Strong Work in the Circle
Newton’s pitching staff limited Red Hill to just two hits.
Lexie Ghast (#24) started in the circle, pitching two innings and striking out three while allowing one run.
Karly Deckard (#30) followed with two scoreless innings, striking out two.
Emma Inyart (#6) closed out the game with one shutout inning, recording two strikeouts.

Red Hill’s two hits came from J. Wheat and C. Seed, while Newton pitchers combined for seven strikeouts.
Up Next
With the win, the Lady Eagles begin the season 1–0 and will look to build momentum as the early portion of the schedule continues.
Newton’s balanced offense and strong pitching performance provided an ideal start to the 2026 season.
