Newton Lady Eagles traveled to face the Edwards County Lady Lions and came up short in a 62–51 road loss.
Newton jumped out to a 19–13 lead after the first quarter and carried a narrow 30–26 advantage into halftime. Edwards County responded with a decisive third-quarter surge, outscoring the Lady Eagles 24–12 to take control. The Lady Lions maintained their momentum in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Edwards County was led by Bishop, who scored a game-high 32 points. Nussmeyer added 16 points, while Robb contributed six. The Lady Lions finished with 24 two-point field goals, one three-pointer, and went 11-for-19 from the free-throw line.
Newton placed four players in double figures, led by Alani Bergbower with 13 points. Grace Schumacher followed with 12, while Allie Hermann scored 11. Izzy Meinhart added 10 points. Claire Probst chipped in four, and Maddie Brummer rounded out the scoring with one.
Newton finished the night with 18 two-point field goals and went 15-for-22 from the free-throw line but was unable to connect from beyond the arc.
On the boards, Hermann led the Lady Eagles with 10 rebounds. Probst pulled down six rebounds, while Meinhart and Brummer each grabbed four. Defensively, Schumacher, Hermann, and Meinhart recorded two steals apiece. Probst led the team with three assists, with Schumacher adding two.
With the loss, Newton falls to 4–3 on the season. The Lady Eagles return to action Thursday night with a conference matchup against Robinson.
