Lady Eagles Head to Super Sectionals After Defeating Columbia in Sectional Championship

In a game dominated by pitching and defense, the NCHS Varsity Eagles edged out the Columbia Varsity Eagles 1-0 on Friday afternoon. The lone run of the tightly contested matchup came in the third inning, thanks to a clutch RBI single from Addyson O’Dell.

Amelia Collins was masterful in the circle for Newton, recording all 21 outs and leading her team to the shutout win. Over seven innings, Collins allowed just three hits, walked two, and struck out one in a poised and efficient performance.

Columbia’s Emily Webb matched Collins nearly pitch for pitch, but a single by O’Dell in the third proved to be the difference-maker. Webb went six strong innings, surrendering only two hits and one run while striking out four.

O’Dell finished the game 1-for-3 and drove in the game’s only run. Allie Hermann collected the other hit for Newton, and the Eagles turned a key double play to help preserve their slim lead.

Columbia managed hits from Reagan Jarrard, Elle van Breusegen, and Reese Jarrard, but couldn’t break through against Collins, who stayed in control throughout the game.

The win marks another strong defensive outing for the NCHS Varsity Eagles, who continue to rely on pitching, timely hitting, and solid fundamentals to notch victories as the season progresses.
