
The Newton Lady Eagles put together a balanced performance on both ends of the floor Thursday night, defeating the Lawrenceville Lady Indians 54–27 in non-conference action at NCHS.
Newton jumped out early, using aggressive defense and efficient scoring to build a 17–5 lead after the opening quarter. Lawrenceville struggled to find consistent offense against the Lady Eagles’ pressure, while Newton continued to extend the margin throughout the night.
By halftime, Newton held a 25–12 advantage and came out of the locker room with renewed energy, outscoring the Lady Indians 17–8 in the third quarter to put the game firmly out of reach. The Lady Eagles closed strong with a 12–7 fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Junior Allie Hermann led Newton with 16 points, finishing strong inside while also converting at the free-throw line. Grace Schumacher followed closely with 15 points and added key contributions across the stat sheet, including four steals. Maddie Brummer added 10 points and six rebounds, while Claire Probst filled the box score with seven points, a game-high 11 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Newton dominated the glass and shared the basketball effectively, showcasing the depth and versatility of the roster.
Lawrenceville was led by Sanders, who accounted for 21 of the Lady Indians’ 27 points.
With the win, Newton improves to 12–6 overall and 2–1 in conference play.
There was no JV game played.
The Lady Eagles return to action Monday night when they host the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces in conference play.
