Lady Eagles Roll Past Shelbyville, 71–40

The Newton Lady Eagles put together a complete performance on both ends of the floor Tuesday night, pulling away early and never looking back in a dominant 71–40 victory over the Shelbyville Lady Rams at NCHS.

Newton set the tone from the opening tip, racing out to a 20–12 lead after one quarter and stretching the margin to 42–26 by halftime. The Lady Eagles continued to apply pressure defensively in the second half, holding Shelbyville to just 14 total points over the final two quarters while steadily building the lead.

Grace Schumacher paced Newton with 19 points, knocking down eight two-point field goals and a three while also contributing six steals and six rebounds. Izzy Meinhart followed with 17 points, including three three-pointers, while Claire Probst added 11 points and three steals. Allie Hermann chipped in 10 points and five assists, and Maddie Brummer controlled the glass with a team-high seven rebounds.

Newton’s defensive pressure was a major factor, forcing turnovers and turning them into scoring opportunities. Alani Bergbower led the way with seven steals and added five assists to go with four points.
