Lady Eagles Soar Past OPH on Senior Night, 70–43

The Newton Lady Eagles celebrated senior Izzy Meinhart in style Monday night, earning a decisive 70–43 victory over the OPH Lady Wildcats.

Newton and OPH battled to a 14–14 tie after the first quarter, but the Lady Eagles turned up the defensive pressure in the second period, outscoring the Wildcats 24–5 to take firm control. Newton never looked back, adding 17 points in the third and 15 more in the fourth to secure the win and improve to 18–10 on the season.

Senior Recognition

Before tipoff, the Lady Eagles recognized senior guard Izzy Meinhart for her dedication and leadership. Meinhart made her presence felt throughout the night, finishing with 16 points and a team-high four steals, setting the tone on both ends of the floor.

Newton showcased balanced scoring and strong inside play. Sophomore guard Alani Bergbower led the way with 19 points, including two three-pointers, while also dishing out a team-high six assists and collecting three steals.

Meinhart added 16 points, while junior guard Allie Hermann and junior guard Grace Schumacher each contributed 11. Junior forward Claire Probst chipped in nine points and dominated the glass with 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Maddie Brummer rounded out the scoring with four points and five rebounds.
