
The Newton Lady Eagles will face Trenton (Wesclin) Coop at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, May 21st at Greenville.
The NCHS Lady Eagles defeated the Lawrenceville Varsity Lady Indians with a score of 6-3 on Wednesday in the first round of regional play. The NCHS Lady Eagles took an early lead in the first inning with Sally Mahaffey, Lilly Kessler, Audrie Reich, and Avery Mulvey each scoring a run.
Amelia Collins was the winning pitcher for the NCHS Lady Eagles, allowing eight hits and three runs (one earned) over seven innings while striking out four and walking one.
On the other hand, Paige Hill took the loss for the Lawrenceville Varsity Lady Indians after giving up four runs on three hits and only striking out one in just one inning.
Mahaffey and Allie Hermann were a strong duo in the lineup for the NCHS Lady Eagles, each collecting two hits and hitting consecutively. Mahaffey also had two RBIs while going 2-for-4 at bat. Allie Stanley drew two walks for the team and the Eagles demonstrated patience at the plate by earning five walks throughout the game. Bailee Frichtl stole two bases and as a team, they stole six bases altogether.
For the Lawrenceville Varsity Lady Indians, Kenidee Boldt and Erin Harris both had successful outings with two hits apiece and Harris leading her team with an RBI. They went error-free in the field with Harris making 10 plays.
In the regional championship game, Amelia Collins pitched a no-hitter to lead the NCHS Lady Eagles to victory over Flora Varsity Wolfgals with a final score of 1-0. Both teams had strong pitching performances, with NCHS Lady Eagles’ pitchers recording 10 strikeouts and Flora Varsity Wolfgals’ pitcher racking up 11 strikeouts.
Halle Kitley took the loss for Flora Varsity Wolfgals after allowing one unearned run on four hits while striking out 11 and walking one in eight innings.
Sally Mahaffey led the NCHS Lady Eagles at bat, going 3-for-4. Flora Varsity Wolfgals had a flawless performance in the field with Kinley Atwood making 11 plays.
