Larry E. Earnest of Newton, IL, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the age of 86. He was a very loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many, who will miss his Christian example and smiling face.
Larry was born to Victor and Lois (Kennedy) Earnest on January 3, 1937, in Olney, IL. In October of 1961, Larry met the love of his life, Patty, when she was visiting Newton. He invited her to the bowling alley for a Mountain Breeze (which she didn’t like),however this was the beginning of their love story that lasted almost 62 years! Throughout his life, Larry was a dedicated grain and cattle farmer, working with his wife for many years. He was a lifelong 4-H member and was a leader of the Reisner Sunny Pioneers club for 30 years. With an interest in antique tractors, he helped form the Jasper County Antique Tractor & Machinery Club in April, 1999, which started with 4-5 members meeting in his shop. He loved attending tractor shows and would talk with all who passed his way about tractors. He never met a stranger and loved to visit with anyone.
Larry was also a dedicated member of the Falmouth United Methodist Church and spent his life living as a Christian example for all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia J. Howe Earnest, daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah & James Riddle, and Diane & Craig Howard. Grandchildren Shelby Riddle, Cody Riddle, April Howard, and Steven Howard; sister and brother-in-law Carolyn & Bob Guilander and brother-in-law Ron Howe as well as many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Leland & Faye Howe, sister and brother-in-law Donna & Paul Nelson, nephew Mark Nelson, brothers and sisters-in-law Richard & Maurine Howe, Mac & Wanda Howe, and Charles Howe.
