Larry Keith Arndt

September 27, 1936 – March 13, 2020

Larry Keith Arndt died March 13, 2020 in his home in San Diego, CA in the
presence of his wife of 62 years, Nancy Jo. Larry was born on September 27, 1936
in Newton, Illinois, son of W.P. (Bill) and Lois Katherine Towell Arndt. He
graduated from NCHS in 1954 and entered the University of Illinois where he
graduated in 1958 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Delta
Upsilon Fraternity. He then entered the U.S. Army Security Agency as a 1st Lt. for
a two year tour in Germany. Following discharge he moved to San Diego where he
worked in private industry for six years and received his Masters Degree in
Engineering from UCLA in 1965 before he began working at NRaD in Point Loma
for Navy Research. He retired from there after 30 years in 1995. The American
Defense Preparedness Association (ADPA) in 1994 gave him the Special
Achievement Award for dedicated scientists and engineers working in the field of
undersea warfare in government and university laboratories. A framed citation and
the ADPA Bronze Medal was presented to Mr. Arndt.
On January 26, 1958, Larry married Nancy Jo Brown in Kosciusko, Mississippi. In
the summer of 1960 they moved to San Diego and became members of La Jolla
United Methodist Church. He is survived by wife Nancy Jo, son Keith Arndt (Peg)
of Tampa, FL, daughter Angela Arndt Odom McDermott (Mark) of Colorado,
three grandchildren, Arianna, Catrina and Shane Odom of Colorado, brother Tony
Arndt (Glenda), niece Ashley and great nephews Keegan and Holden; half
brothers-in-law Thomas H. Brown (Faye) and Steve McKinney (Becky); niece
Ashley McKinney Chambliss and family, niece Lane McKinney; half sisters-in-
law Betty Jean Menke (Tom) and Donna Coad and numerous extended family
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Interment will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Illinois.
Memorial Service date to be determined after Government ends closing of group
participation in services.
His parents and sister-in-law Wanda (Brown) Crews and husband Jack preceded
him in death.
